PRESS RELEASE
KNDI AM Makes Historic Leap to FM: A New Era for Hawai‘i’s Multicultural Voice
After more than six decades of connecting voices across oceans, generations, and cultures, KNDI Radio—known as the Broadcast House of the Pacific—is turning a new page in Hawai‘i’s broadcast history.
With deep pride and renewed purpose, KNDI announces its historic migration from 1270 AM to 104.7 FM, marking a bold transformation that promises clearer sound, broader reach, and a stronger bridge across Hawai‘i’s multicultural communities.
For 65 years, KNDI has been more than just a radio station- it has been a lifeline for Hawai‘i’s diverse families, a companion for new immigrants, and a home for the stories, languages, and
music that define the islands’ shared identity.
KNDI’s move to FM 104.7 represents not only a technological upgrade but a heartfelt renewal of its founding promise—to be the voice of the people who make Hawai‘i, Hawai‘i.
“This is a transformative moment for an iconic Hawaiian institution,” said Geronimo “Gerry” Malabed, Jr., co-owner of Alvarez Malabed Broadcasting LLC, doing business as KNDI FM 104.7.
“In an age of increasing natural and man-made emergencies, reliable radio isn’t a luxury- it’s a lifeline. KNDI has always been there: steady, trusted, and real. This migration ensures that the voice of Hawai‘i’s underserved communities will continue to be heard—loud, clear, and strong.”, Atty. Allan A. Alvarez, co-owner, adds:
“KNDI FM 104.7 is a rebirth—an invitation for every community to take part in shaping Hawai‘i’s future. We remain the home for programming in Ilocano, Tagalog, Spanish, Chuukese, Marshallese, Pohnpeian, Samoan, Tongan, Cantonese, Mandarin, Laotian, Vietnamese, and English. The languages of our listeners are the languages of our heart.”
KNDI has stood at the center of Hawai‘i’s multicultural heartbeat since the 1960s—keeping islanders connected through community news, cultural programs, and public service broadcasts.
Now, with the transition to FM, KNDI delivers:
• Crystal-clear sound and modern broadcast quality
• Expanded reach across islands and online platforms
• A renewed commitment to emergency readiness and public safety
• A platform where new generations can hear—and be heard
he station’s AM signal will also undergo improvements, ensuring both frequencies remain in service of Hawai‘i’s growing and diverse audience.
The migration is scheduled to be completed by January 1, 2026. Under its revitalized direction, KNDI FM 104.7 is charting a new course focused on:
• Expanding multicultural and multilingual programming
• Strengthening community and business partnerships
• Reaching younger, digital-native audiences
• Enhancing streaming, podcast, and social media engagement
• Opening more doors for local talent and cultural expression
This new era celebrates not only Hawai‘i’s diversity—but the shared values that unite all who call these islands home.
With its expanded FM coverage and growing online audience, KNDI FM 104.7 invites businesses, nonprofits, churches, and cultural organizations to join its mission as advertisers, sponsors, and community partners.
Reach Hawai‘i’s most engaged, multilingual audiences through radio, social media, and live events. Let your message travel on the same waves that have carried community voices for generations.
